Driven by Community

FUELED BY THE ARTS

At Southside Cultural Center of Rhode Island, the supportive power of extended family in all its definitions is embraced; as is the belief that the spirit and energy of community and our participation in it, empowers and transforms. The heartbeat of its Southside, West End, and Elmwood neighborhoods, SCCRI nurtures the voices of artists of color and cultivates leaders who lift up our people. The warmth, enthusiasm and unity of our cultural hub echo throughout Rhode Island, and serve as an example of inclusive art-making, kinship and cultural expression.

Southside Cultural Center of Rhode Island connects, cultivates and engages community through the arts. We envision a vibrant, connected community engaged in discovering, exploring, and creating art, that nurtures the voices of artists of color and cultivates leaders who lift up our people.

At SCCRI we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, background, or interest, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and most importantly, express themselves through different mediums of art.

Today, we are home to the following partner tenant arts organizations - Jordan Wellness and Adventures Center, Rhode Island Black Storytellers and Rhode Island Latino Arts, who manages the GalerĂa del Pueblo at SCCRI. Collectively these organizations provide classes in dance, music, storytelling, visual art exhibitions, and live performance events. In addition, several of these organizations also provide social advocacy, cultivate cultural preservation, and support individual artists.
